Foshuo zaoxiang liangdu jing (Buddha's manual of sculptural dimensions) is a major treatise for understanding the ratios and measurements used in "Sanskrit"-style ("foreign" or "Tibetan"-style) figural painting and sculpture, and these were provided by someone familiar with Indian traditions of religious art. Since the translation into Chinese of the work by Gongbu Chab in 1741, few Chinese scholars have studied the work. In this article summarixing the work of international scholars in studying this classic and Sanskrit and Tibetan treatises, the author presents some original views.
