Sichuan is the place where Hsuan Chuang(Xuna Zang) did the research and studied Buddhist doctrine, received the full ordination, and made himself stand out conspicuously, which would later inspire him to make up his mind to pilgrim to the west and gain a reputation for studying Faxiang, or Dharmalaksana, Sect. It’s also the place where Hsuan Chuang established the groundwork of his lifelong career. This article mainly narrates the progression of Hsuan Chuang’s pilgrim from Changan through Hanchuan to Chengdu in Wu De first year as well as his stay and his mentors in Sichuan. Limited by the lack of data, historians tend to downplay the historical facts. Although this article is not quite long, it still supplements the shortage of research.
