The content of the Sutra of Buddhist Medicine is about the medicinal ideas of Indian Buddhism. In this article, we conclude the thought of this sutra from three aspects: the theory of the causes of sickness, the health-preserving thought, and the theory of karma and effect. With regard to the theory of the causes of sickness, causes are divided into bodily, psychological and behavioral dimensions. In order to gain health, one must adjusts these factors to keep the equilibrium of his entire psychosomatic system. As for the health-preserving thought, the sutra guides the adjustment of seasonal diets and behaviors to keep the total health. The last part of this sutra talks about the theory of karma and effect. Bad behaviors bring about the unhealthy states and good behaviors bring about the healthy states in the future.
