During the sixth centuryA.D.,the Buddhist rituals of confession and repentance(which are included recitation of Buddha names)became increasingly popular. In this paper,I will discuss in detail the iconography and Buddha names recorded on two Buddhist steles:the ZHANG Rongqian bei and the CHEN Hailong bei. The study showing a fact that the Buddha names come from the Lotus Sutra,the Golden Light Sutra,and the Sūtra on the Universal Ornament of Attaining Buddha-hood,and through Confession and Expiation of Sins, attesting to the practice of such rituals
