Records referring to jingjin being donated to Buddhist temples were found in some Dunhuang documents, and jingjin was also listed in the account books of some temples. Some scholars think that the shapes and usage of jingjin are not understood, and others think that jingjin corresponds to jingzhi,a textile cover for scriptures.A study of Dunhuang documents suggests that jingjin is a kind of textile used to cover the desk before reading or reciting Buddhist scriptures and to protect the scriptures. This paper is a study on the size, materials, and function of jingjin as well as an attempt to identify the relics from the textiles excavated in the Library Cave.
