The documents unearthed from the pagoda of the Shen-de Temple in Shaanxi Province are mainly Buddhist scriptures and paintings dated from the Tang Dynasty,Five Dynasty and early Song Dynasty.At first,242 pieces have been numbered and compiled.Together with the pieces numbered later,there are 306 numbered pieces of documents altogether.Among them,241 are handwritten manuscripts and 54 are block printings,including tenkinds with engravings.In addition,there are various paper and silk paintings.These documents include more than 40 kinds of Buddhist scriptures, not counting unidentified ones. They are rich in content, and some scriptures bear inscriptions that are votive texts. Two scriptures are marked with exact dates.
