The Samantabhadrabodhisattvasutra was translated from Sanskrit into Chinese by Nian, Dao Zhen after the death of Zhu, Fa-fu (316AD) during the Western Jin dynasty. Venerable Yinshun suspected that the chapter of Samantabhadra of the Avatamsaka-sutra had a very close relationship with the amantabhadrabodhisattvasutra; however, very few of the comparative research between these two sutras have been done thereafter. This paper will explore the translator, the title, the various different versions, the transliterated terms and the whole contents of this sutra. Furthermore, a comparison of literary form, content, origin, time and area between the Samantabhadrabodhisattvasutra and the chapter of Samantabhadra of the Avatamsakasutra will be done in order to clarify the relationship between them.
