People`s opinions about the Hwadu fall into two distinct categories: "pro" and "con." Those in the former category feel that the Hwadu is the only means by which enlightenment can be achieved, whereas those in the latter category feel that Hwadu is ineffective. However, from my observation, both sides are experiencing a sense of crisis regarding the proper use of Hwadu meditation. Hwadu is nothing but returning to the Buddha. The Hwadu, in and of itself, does not promise us anything. It merely points to what already is, to what exists right in front of us. The Hwadu means to return to our ordinary, everyday life as it is. There is no mystery about it; therefore, we should not try to add anything extra. What is important is that we return to the Buddha. The Hwadu shows us who we are. It is enlightenment itself. Let`s wake up and celebrate our true identity.
