| 摘要 | The present essay is devoted to a discussion of a particular type of Esoteric Buddhist ritual which focused on the worship of the cosmic Buddha Tejaprabha (Ch`isonggwang pul 熾盛光佛), the Lord of the Constellations, namely the Sojae toryang 消災道場(Ritual for Averting Calamities). First there will be an introduction to the relationship between astrology and Buddhism under the Koryo followed by a discussion of the rituals for averting calamities and the cult of Tejaprabha, and finally the Songbyon sojae so 星變消災(Panegyric for Averting Calamities [caused by] the Planetary Transformations) written for a Tejapranha ritual will be presented (including a fully annotated translation of the text). |
