The Buddha is considered as the greatest doctor of all disease and medicines.According to the different level of sentient beings, root of their diseases, he taught eighty-four thousand Dharma for them. These diseases mainly refer to human spiritual diseases such as, greed, hatred and delusions, which are also the root cause of Samsaric rebirth. In the Chinese version of Early Buddhist Vinaya-pÊtaka (Bhesajja-khandhaka of Mahavagga, Chapters 1st and 2nd), the Buddha have mentioned about the physical diseases caused on body and their herbal treatment. This article discusses the eighth part of Vinaya, the Kathina-vagga, which explain that J Ê vaka Vaidhya’s innovation of natural medicine in Takkas Êl È as a motivation to discuss the Buddha’s method of curing and prescriptions of herbal medicine for physical sickness in Vinaya-pÊtaka. Through this, this paper penetrates from the traditional Indian Ayruveda to contemporary naturopathy of herbal medicine.
