長安與麥積山石窟北周佛教造像比較研究 -- 以西安北草灘出土的北周白石龕像為中心=A Comparative Study on the Northern Zhou Buddhist Images in Chang’an and the Maijishan Grottoes -- Focusing on the White Stone Statues of the Northern Zhou Dynasty Unearthed from Beicaotan in Xi’an
The white stone statues of the Northern Zhou dynasty discovered in Beicaotan, Xi’an in 1975 were engraved between the Western Wei and Northern Zhou dynasties. They were inlaid in the Northern Zhou Buddhist architectural style and differ greatly from the contemporary Northern Zhou images excavated from Xi’an in niche style, iconographic characteristics, and esthetic style. They exhibit a brand new style that not only inherits the iconographic characteristics of Guanzhong and Chang’an regions, but also absorbs iconographic elements from the Central Plains and the Northern Dynasties regions, exerting significant influences on the Northern Zhou images in the adjacent Maijishan Grottoes in Tianshui, Gansu province.
