The Sui dynasty paid attention to the Western Regions and Dunhuang became the area which was paid a good deal of attention to by the government of the Sui. The emperor Yang Di promulgated Buddhist relics for three times.Dunhuang was one of thirty prefectures which first received Buddhist relics. The event of the construction of the stupa in the Chong jiao tmple of Dunhuang in the first year of Ren shou was recorded in the books “Guang hong ming ji” and “Continuation of the Biography of Eminent Monks”, but could not be found in the local documents of Dunhuang. There are three pieces of Dunhuang manuscripts“Restoration of the Pu jing Stupa by Dong Baode”. Through analysing them again and again, the author of the present paper will try to explain that the Pu jing stupa was the Sui stupa in Chong jiao temple. The paper will put Dunhuang MSS.S.3929 and S.3937 together and name them. Then by full and accurate data, the paper will prove that the Pu jing stupa was in Dunhuang and according to the historical relics found by Dong Baode, Dunhuang documents, Dunhuang landforms, the content of the stupas in Central Plains and the historical documents“Sui guo li she li ta zhao”and Wang Shao’s “She li gan ying ji”, the paper firmly believes above inference that the Pu jing stupa was the stupa of the Chong jiao temple. It will pose a new field of vision for the study of the Mogao Grottoes of the Sui dynasty.
