In coordination with the renovation of the Leifeng Pagoda, the archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology of Zhejiang conducted two seasons of excavation at the site of the pagoda and its basement, opening up an area of 4,000 sqm. The well-preserved basement is a survival of the Five Dynasties and belongs to Wu-Yue State in its last years. A total of seventy-seven unearthed objects include stone Buddhist sutra, architectural parts, miniature pagoda of pure silver and gilt bronze statue.
