The decorative pattern in Dunhuang art can be classified into three categories: plant pattern, animal pattern, and geometry pattern. They are primarily designs of lotus, pomegranate camellia , flower clusters, whirling lines, rhombus, square, cloud, hanging horn,. circular chain with pears, swan, phoenix with flower in the bead, .parrot peacock, pigeon, kalavinka and the seated lion, etc. Comparing these decorative pattern and embroideries of the Northern Wei Dynasty found in Dunhuang with those of the Oxus Oxus River School, author thinks that arts of Dunhuang and Cental Asia, especially the Oxus River Basin have a direct or indirecrt tie
