Xinjiang Kizil Grottoes is a typical example of the Kucha Grottoes, and the content of the frescos in these grottoes is mainly about Jataka, Avadana, Nidana, analogy etc. Based on the analysis of the content of the frescos, they are reflections of the Hinayana's three sections, including Sila, Samadhi, Prajñā. According to the partition of Buddhism's Navanga-buddha-vacan or Dvādasānga-buddha-vacana, the content of these frescos belongs to the Vinaya system and the pictures drawn in the grottoes are to strengthen the discipline and purify the soul. The sutra on discipline unearthed in Kucha region agrees with the rigorous discipline in ancient times here.
