Chinese scholars not infrequently visited and investigated the Touenhouang Cave-Temples since around 1942 even during the latest war. Now the war was over and, after the new government took over the site in 1950, Touen-houang Institute of Arts (敦煌藝術研究所) was reformd into Touen-houang Institute of Arts and Crafts (敦煌文物研究所) in 1951. Up to the present, the figures and the numbering published by Mission Pelliot, in Les Grottes de Touen-houang (6 Tomes, Paris, 1920-24), have been the foundation for various studies of this site. However, recent researches are newly building a very significant foundation for future studies. This article intends to introduce these quite recent achievements in China.
