"Seven-generation of parents"is one of the key parent-supporting principles noted in the preface to handwritten Buddhist scripture.The author of this paper argues that seven-generation parents,based on the theory of reincarnation,refers to all those parents passed away before this life,thus advocating that all living creatures are our parents.It projects an essential distinction with the concept of seven-generation ancestors held by people of the Central Plains.The superiority of the seven-generation parents makes it an important supplement to the notion of filial piety held by people of the Central Plains and exerts a deep influence on common people’s understanding of filial piety.
