Based on a careful study of Stein Painting50 Ch 0074 remaining in the British Museum,this article tries to giving an iconographic explanation for the Eight Great Bodhisattvas of the Tibetan Occupation period in Dunhuang Grottoes and another Buddhist site nearby area and at the same time,made a comparative study both on iconography of the Eight Bodhisattva found in India,Tibetan and the Eastern Cave of Thousand Buddhas in Guazhou and the Tantric texts in the Hidden Library of Dunhuang.This article put forward an opinion that Stein Painting Ch 0074 should belong to art work of later 8th century to mid 9th century of period of Tibetan Occupation in Dunhuang,and icon presentation of Stein Painting50 Ch.0074 was popular Buddhist art motif of Vairochana and the Eight Bodhisattva of the Garbhadhātu family that popular along the Old Silk Road at that time.
