Between the late of 19th century to the beginning of 20th,many expeditions and spies came to Gansu under cover of various reasons.Many of them were Japanese.Before Zuicho Tachibana and Shoichiro Yoshikawa,who were very familiar to us,there are a few more Japanese had been to Gansu.The earliest Japanese had been to Gansu in 1888 were Urakeiichi and Fujishimatakehiko,then there were Fujimoto,Hayashidekenjiro,Hatanoyosaku.All of them left more or less records,which were the earliest records about Gansu made by Japanese.
