This paper presents a study on the physical-mechanical properties of the painted bricks collected in the museums of Jiuquan,Dunhuang,Jiayuguan and Gaotai in Hexi Regions of Gansu Province. The results show that the content of soluble salts in these painted bricks is high, and they differ in the porosity, pore distribution, color, uniformity and intensity. However, more than ten centuries later, some of them still remain a high average mechanical intensity. The results also reflect ancient brick-making technology and level, and provide basic information for future conservation.
