Dunhuang was a prefecture during the Western Xia Dynasty. The Mogao Grottoes then enjoyed a special position and were regarded as "Sacred Palace" and "Divine Mount." Many precious documents have been discovered from both the Dunhuang Library Cave and ancient Khara Khoto site, which laid the material foundation for the Dunhuang Studies and the Western Xia Studies, respectively.Though rich in content and similar in type, the interpretation, sorting, and publication of the documents from Khara Khoto occurred nearly half a century later than those from the Library Cave. The Western Xia Studies should borrow the methodology and experience from the Dunhuang Studies, and experts of both studies should cooperate closely for mutual development.
