There are many Maitreya images depicted in the Sui Dynasty caves at the Mogao Grottoes.Building on previous research,this paper helps us to better understand the Sui Dynasty Maitreya images at Dunhuang by studying the illustration of the Maitreya’s Rebirth Above in the Tusita Heaven in cave 262,the cartouches about the worship of seven treasures in the Maitreya Sutra illustration,and the inscriptions from the Lotus Sutra illustration in cave 419.This paper not only analyzes the image sources for the symmetrically depicted "Meditation under the dragon-flower tree" and "Bestowal of Prediction" in the Maitreya Sutra illustration of the Sui Dynasty,but also suggests that their images were also derived from the Maitreya Sutra illustration.
