守護敦煌寶藏,傳承人類文化遺產-敦煌研究院七十年=Safeguarding the Art Treasure Trove of Dunhuang and Inheriting the Cultural Heritage of Mankind——on the 70th Anniversary of Dunhuang Academy
Since the inception of National Research Institute on Dunhuang Art in 1944, the Mogao Grottoes site has welcomed a period of effective conservation, management and research. In 1949, the National Research Institute on Dunhuang Art was renamed the Research Institute on Dunhuang Cultural Relics. Since then, the guidelines of "conservation, research and promotion" have been established, and conservation and research have been reinforced. Various work, such as the large-scaled consolidation of the caves, restoration of the murals and statues, mural copying, and research on the history of Dunhuang caves and the contents of the murals has been gradually carried out. The Research Institute on Dunhuang Cultural Relics was expanded,becoming the Dunhuang Academy in 1988, with a multi-disciplinary team. This marked a new era for international cooperation, scientific conservation, multi-field research, extensive display and the promotion of Dunhuang culture and art at home and abroad.
