At the inception of Dunhuang Art Research Institute, Photographer Luo Jimei was invited to Dunhuang and photographed most of the caves. For various reasons, over 2000 of these photos have not been published yet. This paper presents an introduction to the photos taken by Luo Jimei, which are now collected in Princeton University, and attempts to demonstrate the significance and value of these photos as historical records of both the exterior and interior of the caves.
