In addition to the dissertation of Wen Luojun, which discusses the possibilities of ten recitations for rebirth in the pure land, other scholars like Wen Zongkun, Liao Minghuo and Chen Jianhuang also refer to the idea of ten recitations while discussing the pure land thoughts or great Buddhist masters. Among them, the article "The Significance of ‘Ten Recitations for Rebirth in Pure Land’: Focusing on the three pure land sutras and their commentaries in the Tripitaka" written by Zhu Xiangyu should be a masterpiece. However, the above mentioned research is all confined to the masters or three sutras of pure land. The different canonical signification and functions of "ten recitations" has never been discussed. Therefore, based on previous research of the author, this paper compares the ten-recitation texts collected from Dunhuang documents and other sources with the Ten-Recitation Method for Taoist Ceremonies in the Collection of Taoist Scriptures, attempting to illustrate the use and functions of the ten-recitation texts and to review the signification of"preaching through chants and songs."
