Among the archives of the fifth great discovery of historical documents in early modern China, most of the documents found in Khara-Khoto are about the Western Xia and Yuan dynasties. Differing from the Tangut documents, the Yuan dynasty archives are mainly secular documents, including contracts, official documents, religious texts, medical books, and calendars. These documents fill a void in our extant historical records and provide first-hand material for reconstructing our impression of the Yuan dynasty society while further discussing the administrative, official, financial and tax systems, as well as jurisdiction and the social, military religious, and cultural aspects of the Yuan dynasty.
