By classifying, investigating, and reorganizing the cultural heritages of the Chinese section of the Silk Road, by exploring their values based on cultural tourism requirements, and through comprehensive, multi-perspective data gathering and processing using digital technologies, a cultural tourism representation and experience has been explored. This exhibition based on digital technologies comprehensively show the essence of both the Silk Road and Dunhuang cave arts through its design, elaborate organization, reasonable arrangement, clear themes, perfect planning, and ingenious ideas. It presents a perfect combination of technologies and art through either virtual tours or real displays. Because the cultural heritage of the Silk Road is so widely distributed in such large quantity, including some out-of-the-way sites in harsh natural environments lacking communication signals, tourists cannot visit or experience them on the spot. Now this problem has been solved by digital technologies. For example, the "Dunhuang Art from the Mogao Grottoes-Digital Dunhuang Exhibition" in the Dunhuang Art Museum in Lanzhou produces a good environment for digital cultural exhibition, meets diverse tourist needs and personalized cultural experiences, forms an innovative service mode for cultural tourism on the Chinese section of the Silk Road, and accomplishes the fundamental aims of scientific support, cultural experience, space-time tourism and service-orientation.
