Venerable Fa-bao, during being the student of Master Hsuan-chuang, is a peculiar student. Once he raised a question of “no-thinking view confusions” for his teacher, and raised the doubt for his teacher again for how the secular language being added to the words of Buddha. In the circle of promoting “three vehicles of achieving Buddhihood,” he insisted “one vehicle to achieving Buddhihood;” Besides, in his Explanation of Abhidharma Kosa, he often points out mistakes or fallacy of Notes for Abhidharma Kosa, written by his fellow, Pu-guang. All of these shows Fa-bow’s special disposition. In this paper, the author explores from three points of view: Venerable Fa-bow’s thought, disputes between Fa-bow and his peers, and reflections from foreign researchers on the notes of Abhidharma Kosa. The author elaborates that based on the thought of Tathagatagarbha, Fa-bow promotes On One Vehicle to the Buddha-nature, naturally different from the Consciousness studies of Master Hsuan-chuang. Both Puguang and Fa-bow have special viewpoints in their notes on Abhidharma Kosa. The disagreements and similarities of their books probably came from the influence of their predecessor criticists since the disagreements over Abhidharma Vibhasa. As for the comments from the Japanese researcher, Ven Fa-chuang, are not involved the meaning of dharma; he just presents discovery and verification of the sources of citations, and different cognitive differences over the categories of literature source of sutras.
