The Hetu-pratyaya (Sankrit) which is a very important concept of Buddhism means cause (hetu) and condition (pratyaya) in English. The doctrine is well displayed in Four Chinese Aagama Sutra which is basic texts of Primitive Buddhism. Based on Four Chinese Aagama Sutra, the concept of Hetu-pratyaya has two aspects: causation and the twelve links of dependent origination. In speaking of causation, it recognizes a karma law that a good deed has a good result. It is relevant to human experience and behavior with the goal of justifying morality or moral action. For the twelve links, it is a system whose parts are mutually dependent. This dependence has been designated the dependent origination.
