Master Hong Yi, who made a great contribution to the study of temperament, poetry, painting and calligraphy, is a legend in China's modern history of Buddhism. His outlook on life and death shows a clear train of thought which grew steadily through his teaching career. He understood the nature of the Buddhist outlook on life and death. What's more, he has broken the variable and secular outlook on it ever since the Ming and Qing Dynasty. He relied on the study of temperament externally and belonged to the pure land internally. He practiced Buddhist by pure land to find liberation from the life and death, and restored it to the life level. He proved his outlook on life and death at last by his peaceful leaving the world.
