There is an abundance of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s writings on Humanistic Buddhism that includes an enormous volume of literary and artistic thought. How do we read and understand Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s literary and artistic thought? This is the main topic of this thesis. This thesis deals with reading and understanding the literary and artistic thought of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Humanistic Buddhism from the combined perspectives of literature and Buddhism, based on writing as a method for demonstrating understanding. This article holds the view that “Writing and Cultivation” in Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Humanistic Buddhism consists of the special features of both literature and Buddhism. Using the combined perspectives of literature and Buddhism to read and understand, one can see that there are three areas of special significance, namely, writing as part of life, writing as part of cultivation, and writing as part of Dharma propagation. This paper highlights the various contributions of Humanistic Buddhist writings towards literature and research works, based on the understanding that writing and cultivation are both a literary and Buddhist activity. This paper aims to enhance the understanding of Chinese religious literature.
