In 2009, during the process of the maintenance project of the Guanyin Temple in Xinjin, Sichuan, the severe splitting, breaching and deforming of the backdrop wall of the clay sculptures drew serious concerns. To deal with these problems, anchor rods and spacers made of carbon fiber were chosen as reinforcing gadgets to restore and strengthen the backdrop wall.
