Based on the new-discovered epitaph of Monk Jizhao and referring to the historic literature, this paper examined Monk Jizhao, the master of the epitaph, and other characters such as Cui Bian, Cui Lin, Cui Ying, Cui Rong and other people of the Cui Family mentioned in the epitaph, and made a brief introduction to Chongjing Monastery, where Jizhao converted to Buddhism, based on the research results of previous scholars. This paper provided basic material for the studies on the lineage of Cui Bian’s branch of the Cui Family in the mid and late Tang Dynasty and the history of Buddhism in this period, which makes a supplement to the missing parts of the historic literature.
