Fazang epitomized the thought of Huayan school, and the theory of mind is the important part of his theories. Only by thinking of his theory of mind, we can accurately comprehend his theories. So the study theme of this thesis is "Fazang’s Interpretation of the Huayan Sutra from the Viewpoint of his Theory of Mind". Fazang’s theory of mind is the object and the mind only poems in the Huayan Sutra are the materials, and Fazang’s interpretation on the theory of mind in Perfect-teaching is researched and discussed in this thesis. By comparative research method, the inner construction of Fazang’s theory of mind and the external theory are compared and contrasted. On the external antitheses, through the Huayan Sutra, Paramartha, Fa-shang, Ching-ying Hui-yuan, the Awakening of Mahayana Faith, Chih-yen, Fazang’s interpretation from the viewpoint of his theory of mind is manifest and heightened. On the internal study of Fazang’s theory of mind, the Five Types of Buddhist Theories about theory of mind and the Ten Vijñānavāda Perceptions are the approaches to interpretation on the theory of mind. Finally, through the comparison between Fazang’s theory and the external theories and the result from internal analysis of Fazang’s theory of mind, how Fazang perceived the mind only poems in the Huayan Sutra is understood and the characteristics of the theory of mind in Huayan Perfect-teaching is clearly presented.
