This thesis aims to explore the possible connections between Buddhist Life Conservation belief and Animal Protection Movement. Through documentary research and interviews with respective Buddhist organizations, the paper analyzes their approaches, actions and social impact in the name of Buddhist Life Conservation practice. Four types of Buddhist organizations and practices are identified: Tzu Chi and Fo Guang Shan that practice vegetarianism; Buddhist Sangha Health Care Foundation, Bliss and Wisdom Buddhism Foundation that both take life release approach; Tse-Xin Organic Agriculture Foundation and Leezen Company Limited that support eco-friendly farming; Buddhist HongShi College and Life Conservationist Association (LCA) that dedicated to Animal Protection Movement. The detailed landscape and practices of vegetarianism, life release, environmentally friendly farming and animal protection movement are introduced and scrutinized to evaluate the impacts on animal welfare and society in Taiwan.
