All Bodhisattvas are capable of taking care sentients beings in both this and underneath worlds, in Buddhist terms as Yin and Yang Realms (冥陽兩界). However, Chinese have viewed Dizang as the dominant deity in hell. Its role as the main savior of the deceased ghosts and ancestors exampling in the Ghost Festival attributes Dizang the title of “the King of the Underneath World” (幽冥教主), which is coherent with Chinese ancestor worship and colors its divinity with the Yin element. Ven.Dijiao has promoted a new form of Dizang worship in contemporary Taiwan, emphasized the Dizang worship in this worldly approach. In this dissertation I discussed how Ven. Dijiao successfully establishes a new format of Dizang Worship; moreover, she introduced and the explored the Taiwanese local element of the Dizang Worship to the Chinese communities in Malaysia and Singapore. Localization emerges with transnationalization. I investigated, consequently, Ven. Dijiao’s image converts with Dizang’s through her performance of mystic/miraculous events in her followers’ eyes; her own interpretation of Dizang worship; her relating Dizang worship with family-oriented practice, and the fulfillment of ancestor benefit as well as universal salvation.
