The Tongzisi Grottoes in Minle County, Gansu Province, can be divided into two southern and northern areas with nine extant caves stretching from south to north and facing the west. Among these structures, three are central-pillared caves. This grottoes site was first constructed in the Sixteen Kingdoms period, and renovated in the Northern and Qing dynasties. Some paintings and inscriptions on Buddhism and Taoism have been found in the caves.
