Studies on the Taboos in Dunhuang Documents by Dou Huaiyong is the first book on the taboos mentioned in Dunhuang documents ever published. This paper reviews its academic value and features of research methodology from the following five aspects: 1)scientific dating; 2)distinguishing the locality of different manuscripts; 3)introducing the method of statistics; 4)bringing up the idea of modified taboos; and 5)comparing engravings with Dunhuangmanuscripts.
