The Shangdafo Cliff Sculpture site is located at Changxing Village in Qingliu Township, Anyue County, Sichuan Province. There are now 20 surviving niches that date back to the Tang, early Northern Song, and Ming dynasties. The images take on obvious temporal characteristics, some of which are very unique; many of the early Song Dynasty images in particular contain information such as the name of the image and the date of creation. The rich themes of a certain short period can supplement the creation sequence of the Northern Song sculptures in Anyue, and the themes and combinations of images further reflect the secularization of the regional belief system and Buddhist sculptures. These cliff engravings have provided important new physical material for studying the evolution of the cliff sculpture and religious beliefs in Anyue and Sichuan.
