The Daofan Qusheng Xinjue, as one of the central Buddhist texts for the Northern School of the Chan Sect, has attracted a great amount of attention from academic circles, though differences remain as to views of its authorship. Based on the recording and correction of this text, and by analyzing the ideas it expresses and unique relationships of inheritance, this paper concludes that the author of this document may likely be Du Fei,who also wrote Chuan Fabao Ji. As for the contents of Daofan Qusheng Xinjue, it can be divided into three main parts: "Building the Lineage of the Chan Sect," "The Outlook on the Laws," and "Theory of Mind."
