his paper reports the results of a preliminary investigation on the painted clay sculptures collected in the Qiuci Academy in Xinjiang, of which 44 pieces have been well preserved and are easily identifiable. 15 out of the 44 pieces have been selected and classified into five kinds based on topic of representation, all cast in painted clay:(1) heads,(2) bodies,(3) hands,(4) followers, and(5) animals and Mt. Sumeru.
