對青州七級寺出土一件背屏式造像時代的考證 - 兼談青州北朝晚期背屏式造像的發展演變規律=Textual Research on a Statue with a Back Screen Unearthed from the Qiji Temple at Qingzhou - Plus a Discussion on the Evolutionary Principles of This Type of Statues during the Late Northern Dynasties
A collection of statues including one Buddha and two bodhisattvas with a back screen was unearthed from an archaeological site at the Qiji Temple in Qingzhou, but the statues have yet to be dated exactly.The author of one brief report speculates that they are from the Northern Wei dynasty but other scholars believe them to date from the Eastern Wei dynasty, and the issue has yet to be satisfactorily resolved. This paper uses a comparative and textual methodology to date this statue by comparing it with statues of the same type from the Qingzhou region and by summarizing the evolutionary principles that determined this style of artwork and thus set it apart from other historical instances of Buddhist sculpture.
