Fahua Xingyi(Rituals of Fahua) is an important book in the history of Tang dynasty research on the Lotus Sutra. It discusses the "behaviors leading people to be good or evil" and attaches great importance to the "current cause" that makes a person good in the future. The text is in many ways a commentary on the Lotus Sutra, in which the core idea is ethical practice in the present, the importance of this book to Buddhist scholarship being confirmed by its inclusion by Hui Zhao in his Fahua Xuanzan Yijue(Commentaries on the Doctrines of the Lotus Sutra). No other historical documents make mention of the Fahua Xingyi, however, which seems to suggest that its popularity was fleeting.
