Cave 12 at the Maijishan Grottoes was built in the Sui dynasty. The ceiling murals were repainted in the Ming dynasty and mainly depict the karma of Hariti and the nirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. The scene of "raising the alms-bowl" in the murals, an image that shows the inheritance and development of the same theme since the Song and Yuan dynasties in the Central Plains, is the only image about the karma of Hariti in the murals of the Maijishan Grottoes.
