To define the fundamental theory and the editing process, approaching with the basic theory of the article editing, definition of the variant dictionary, the characters in the vocabulary of the Chinese Sutra within the title of this thesis, The Editing Methodology for Variant Dictionary of Chinese Sutras, the discussion will focus on the practical methodology for variant dictionary of Chinese Sutras. Exploring the characteristics of Chinese dictionary, the viewpoints of the variant vocabulary, the result of the research for the variant dictionary, the typology of Chinese Sutra’s language, and the resources to collect the variant characters from Chinese Sutra. Combine with the solid background as a dictionary editor for more than 20 years, providing the ideas of the regulation, methodology, and practical issues of the Variant Dictionary for Chinese Sutra. To differ the editing from the traditional dictionary, in the thesis will apply the concept of Corpus with collection of vocabulary, explanation base on the text itself also with the interpretation of the dictionary from the pass dynasties. Furthermore, the suggestion for the plan to establish the fundamental database for editorial process, constructing various databases for the documents and vocabularies of Buddhist Sutras. Expecting the advantages not only for the digital editing process but contributing the fundamental knowledge database of Sutras’ languages, developing the research activities in the future, and the editing process instruction for the other dictionaries.
