The purpose of my study is to examine and to clarify geyi(格義) and Geyi-Buddhism in China. The geyi and Geyi-Buddhism are referred to as the transition stage in which Indian Buddhism meets with Chinese thoughts in their difference of cultural background. A common view to the geyi seems to seek appreciation with getting help in an analogous concept and terminology as to an unacquainted Buddhism in traditional thoughts of China. As we saw above, however, the geyi presents a new direction as an deep intervention in a main thoughts of China. That is, it not only stops to appreciation, but also jumps to one phase throughout a doctrine of Buddhism. In accordance with this, the concept of geyi enlarges again, and this should be fixed by a range through Buddhism that influences in thought of China. Then, I will investigate that it comprises in a concept of geyi to the philosophy of the rationalistic Confucian(理學) in the Song(宋) dynasty. This paper considers the following issues: 1. It is how to development in translating scriptures, discoursing, and writing of Buddhism. 2. The problem of LiuJiaQiZong(六家七宗) as representative Geyi-Buddhism in Dong-Jin(東晋) dynasty. 3. What is a meaning of Geyi-Buddhism. In this process, it is the important point of geyi and Geyi-Buddhism that turns the immanent decision in being settled a direction of all Chinese Buddhism. In geyi and Geyi-Buddhism, it shows the route of Confucianization and Lao-Chungzation in Chines Buddhism. And then, by this course, it is built up Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism triangular position(儒佛道三敎鼎立) and if no transition stage of geyi and Geyi-Buddhism, this is impossible.
