| 摘要 | 티벳불교는 불교가 처음 도입될 당시 인도불교와 중국불교의 양 계통이 동시에 유입되어 유행하였다. 티송데첸왕 치세에 이루어진 삼예사의 논쟁이후 티벳은 인도불교를 수용하면서 산스끄리뜨 불교경전을 번역하기 위해 티벳문자와 문법, 번역규칙을 마련하였다. 티벳경전이 인도원어 경전의 원의를 가장 충실하게 계승하게 된 내력은 이와 같다. 또한 티벳사원은 나란다를 비롯한 인도승원의 체제를 계승하여 설립되었다. 티벳불교는 사원체제를 통해 문헌과 사원조직의 양면에서 명실상부하게 인도불교를 계승하였다고 볼 수 있다. 티벳불교는 인도불교의 전승 이후 종파불교가 형성되고 토속종교인 뵌교와의 습합과 달라이라마의 정치제도 등 티벳불교 고유의 특수성을 보이지만 인도불교와의 관계에서 볼 때 인도에서 사라진 나란다사 이외의 전통사원을 복원할 수 있는 가장 많은 단서를 내포하고 있다. 티벳불교는 테라바다를 비롯해 대승불교의 전통으로서 인도불교 전체의 보편성을 역사적으로 계승하고, 동시에 티벳의 토양과 정치사회, 문화에서 보이는 특수성을 발전시키면서 현재에 이르고 있다.
When the Buddhism was firstly adopted to Tibet the tradition of Indian Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism was flourished simultaneously but under the rule of the King Tri song de chen Indian Buddhism was accredited as unique and orthodox Buddhism in Tibet. Consequently the Tibetan letter and grammatical rule was invented for the purpose of interpreting Sanskrit scripture of Indian Buddhism and the monastic system was established in Samye Monastery based on the Indian Buddhist monastery like Nalanda Monastic University. Tibetan Buddhism has succeeded the Indian Buddhism which is vanished in Indian peninsula today. Tibetan Buddhism show some unique religious factors like unification of Bon po, sectarian Buddhism and the political and religious system of reincarnation of Buddhas especially like Dalai Lama. These specific aspects of Tibetan Buddhism comes from Tantric Buddhism originated from Indian Buddhism but Tibetan Buddhism possesses many factors that enable the reestablishment of Nalanda Buddhist Monastery which can represent a valuable spirit of Buddhism.
