試論「人間佛教」兩種社會再造方式 —— 以證嚴法師「治心」與昭慧法師「治境」為對比=Two Ways to Reconstruct Society in Humanistic Buddhism: A Comparison between Master Cheng-Yen and Master Chao-Hwei from “Heart- Oriented” and “System-Oriented”
Humanistic Buddhism is the mainstream of Buddhism in Taiwan. Each different Humanistic Buddhist group participated in the reconstruction of society, hoping to realize the idea of Pure Land on Earth. Master Cheng-Yen and Master Chao-Hwei are the two that receive the most attention. Both masters care profoundly about human society, but their images, personal traits, spiritual concepts, methods of implementation, and dedicated fields are different. This article compares Master Cheng-Yen's 'Heart-Oriented' Method and Master Chao-Hwei's 'System-Oriented' Method as examples. Master Cheng-Yen believes social improvement should start from inner education, that is the 'Heart-Oriented', while Master Chao-Hwei thinks it is about institutional construction, that is the 'System-Oriented'. The extended discussions include how the two masters' public awareness affects their different approaches, as well as the limits and complements between their two different orientations.
