This paper focuses on the “Dedicatory Verse” found in the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā and aims to explore the interpretations of its meaning. After comparing the verse found in the various extant versions of the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā (Sanskrit and other languages), along with the explanations of modern teachers, it is clear that these versions are based on different interpretations. This paper aims to review the so-called errors presented by Wan Chin-Chuan, and offer an alternative insight that aligns with both the Sanskrit language and the ideologies of the Madhyamaka school, through linguistic analysis. The conclusion derived in this paper shows that the interpretations of the ancient Chinese translators and commentators have their skilful and valuable insights, which do have supporting evidence based on Madhyamaka ideology and the understanding of the Sanskrit text. Objectively, there does not appear to be a systematic error in the understanding and interpretation of the Sanskrit text, as proposed by Wan Chin-Chuan.
