Fa Xian Zhuan, which is one of the most important Buddhist travel notes in early China, has been translated into quite a few foreign languages, especially English. However, Chinese scholars haven′t learned enough about the English translations of Fa Xian Zhuan. Accordingly, this paper intends to show readers the details of four 19th century English translations of Fa Xian Zhuan (1848-1886), including translators, publishing institutions, publishing time and translation styles.
